Our Chef of the month is Motunrayo Akinseye. Fun, lovable and soo in love with food, Tunrayo is the creative fusion of business, baking and brilliance. Born and raised in Lagos, Motunrayo is from Ondo state.

 

The journey began as early as 6 years old. By the time she was 15, Tunrayo caught the bug known as the business of baking. At that point, she decided to turn her passion into profit. This was encouraged by her parents who were entrepreneurs.

 

Obsessed with the art and craft of baking, Tunrayo first studied Business Administration at the University of Lagos. There she learned the blue print of what it takes to run a business. The next step was to develop her craft which lead to taking an Advanced diploma in French Pattieserie from Le Cordon Blue, Paris.

 

With a mastery of business in one hand, and a mastery of baking in the other, the first business was born. This was called Taste Buds Confectionery. It evolved into Farmhouse Bakery and then evolved into Licious Desserts. Licious, because her creations are delicious without a doubt.

 

Tunrayo is inspired by the desire to be really good at what she does. As well as the burning passion to make her clients feel when eating her creations, the same way she feels when baking them. Tunrayo loves pairing flavours and textures as well as working with some specific decor mediums. Fondly refers to them as therapeutic.

 

Burning many cakes at the beginning, and one time catering at a Wedding only to discover they got the dates wrong, Tunrayo has become one of the most sought out bakers in Nigeria. Her company has catered to events in almost all the states in the country and also done catering jobs on an international level.

 

Tunrayo has the rare ability to carry on even when feeling like giving up. A mother of two lovely children, Tunrayo loves the company of her close friends, peace and quiet, plus spending time indoors.

 

Tunrayo runs a training platform called the Licious Craft Academy. Her desserts can be found on the shelves at all Shoprite stores in Lagos and her famous cakes, desserts and milkshakes are given at amazing discounts every now and then. This is why we love Motunrayo Akinseye.
